Animals are not here for us to subjugate and objectify for our own use. Animals are living, feeling, breathing, thinking individuals. They have desires and instincts of their own over which we run rampant when we cage, manipulate, hurt and kill them.
If we were truly carnivores it would be excusable for us to kill other animals to survive. But given that we thrive on plants, it becomes a choice, and an unnecessarily grisly one at that, to continue to eat animals or to steal anything their bodies produce like eggs, milk, honey, and their skins, hooves, horns or furs.
Animals are not property. They are not objects. They are not here for us to dominate. When we do dominate and exploit them, we create suffering not only for them, but for everyone including ourselves. It is such a losing proposition to continue to eat animals.
Animals form deep, long-lasting bonds with each other. They care about their peers and their families. They have natural instincts to nest, to select mates of their own choosing, to nurture and protect their children, to groom themselves in ways they prefer, to migrate and seek their own food in their own timeframe, in their own seasons. Just like we do.
They have intrinsic rights to be allowed to live their own lives, or to not be bred at all, if the only purpose of such breeding is to create mutilated, slaughtered corpses for people to eat, or to create slaves to abuse for entertainment in barbaric events such as racing, rodeos and circuses.
And they should not be tortured in outdated testing labs so that we can have products like lipstick, drain cleaner and hair dye, all of which was already tested years ago. Testing labs that subject animals to horrendous experiments and tests for the supposed advancement of medicine for humans are also archaic now that we have much more accurate study models which involve no animals at all.
We need to open our collectively closed eyes, and see animals for who they truly are, who not what. They and we are co-inhabitants on this planet. We would do well to regard animals as the precious, sacred individuals they are, rather than some kind of resource we can ravage for our own short-sighted, ego-centric use. Learn to go vegan here.
